■ Message from the CEO.
Much can be achieved through innovation and vision. In the case of active RFID, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS recognized early on the limitless potential of this technology. The first step was taking the technology and perfecting it. Add features like temperature monitoring and censoring, then make it robust and reliable in even the harshest of environments. Throw in industry-leading read ranges of 500 plus meters, and you have the ideal platform to create the most innovative and complete solutions available. We worked with technology partners who are leaders in their field, then added our own unwavering commitment to developing complete active RFID based solutions that are cutting edge and currently lead the industry. The result? Once again, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS has garnered the attention of industry and peers as a leader in innovation – most recently as a winner of the Red Herring Global Top 100 and SWISS Logistics Award. Whether safeguarding lives in remote and isolated environments, streamlining automotive manufacturing processes, tracking and tracing assets, or protecting athletes, our technology delivers where others cannot. |

■ Turning down the heat.
Innovation is the cornerstone on which IDENTEC SOLUTIONS was founded. Take what has been done successfully, improve on it and move into areas not thought of before. That same innovative spirit is why Atlanta, Georgia-based Hothead Technologies approached IDENTEC SOLUTIONS with an idea and business model. Through the use of active RFID technology, Hothead Sports had modelled a system that would ensure the safe temperature monitoring of football players. IDENTEC SOLUTIONS in turn developed an impact-resistant, ultra-light transponder with a built-in temperature monitor. Now, when a football player is sporting a Hothead Sports' helmet, an alarm will sound on a handheld reader when a player reaches a dangerous temperature. At that time the team trainer can pull the player to the side, ultimately protecting him from the dangers associated with heat stroke. The HOT system, which stands for HEAT OBSERVATION TECHNOLOGY, is the first line of heat monitoring tools to assist individuals and groups in avoiding the dangerous and silent attack of heat illness. Football is the first to use the HOT system. It can also be used in the military, public safety (Firefighters, SWAT), Industrial, Utility, Mining, as well as other sports like baseball, softball, lacrosse, soccer, track & field, basketball, cross-country running, and cycling. As a Hothead Sports technology partner, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS salutes that company’s vision and innovation. |

■ Product Spotlight: The i-MARK.
The i-MARK is a position marker used to determine the exact location of specifically-equipped ILR® tags from the IDENTEC SOLUTIONS i-Q and i-B series. As the tag passes, the induction loop that is connected to the i-MARK (or position marker) is triggered and identification data is communicated and downloaded onto the tag. The tag then carries current as well as previously communicated data. Information passed to the tag from the IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ i-MARK can either be repeatedly transmitted, or read by an ILR® reader at another time and location. The ability to control the inductive field limits by allowing both lane discrimination and direction recognition is unique to IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ i-MARK technology. Maintenance-free after setting original parameters, two options are available: i-MARK 2 with integrated inductive antenna (loop) and i-MARK 3 for external loops. ■ IDENTEC SOLUTIONS wins the Red Herring Award (Again.)
IDENTEC SOLUTIONS brought home top honours in January at an event held in San Diego where more than 400 international business leaders gathered to recognise the best of the best at the Red Herring's Global Top 100 event. Red Herring has long been considered a key resource for revealing future technology leaders. Past winners of this prestigious award include Google, Yahoo!, Skype, Netscape, Salesforce.com and YouTube. The Red Herring Global Top 100 winners are chosen from the best in the world. Out of 1,800 successful and eligible companies, the Red Herring editorial team narrowed the best companies first to 200 finalists, then to the top 100 winners for this global award. ■ IDENTEC SOLUTIONS acquires Tunnelcom AS.
IDENTEC SOLUTIONS continues with its strategy to be the leading provider of worker identification and safety systems within the Oil, Gas and Mining markets. Building on the success of WTEK’s integration last year, IDENTEC SOLUTIONS further reinforced market dominance with the recent acquisition of Tunnelcomm AS. The privately held, Norway-based Tunnelcom is noted for its ATS (Automatic Tagging System), an electronic access, passage and safety system. A recent Tunnelcom deployment is the Norra Länken project in Stockholm. With tunnel construction set to span an estimated 3 years, the installation presented a significant geographical challenge. The vast expanse of winding and connecting tunnels required special consideration when installing the system infrastructure, which include fibre optics and Internet connectivity. It includes the placement of cameras at all tunnel entrances, a voice-enabled communication system, alarms, and IDENTEC SOLUTIONS' Trailblazer server and WatcherTUNNEL software. The result is a system that ensures the ultimate safety of all contractors during the extensive building process. Other Tunnelcom underground jobs include Zinkgruvan, Kristineberg and Garpenberg (Boliden), LKAB, SVEA (mining) and several more tunnel projects. Designed on the basic philosophy that underground communication must always work, Tunnelcom's systems were developed to function effectively in both everyday operations and in emergency situations. What separates Tunnelcom's Automated Tagging Systems(ATS) from others is that it focuses solely on personnel safety. Specializing only on the harsh and isolated environments of tunnels and mines, Tunnelcom's technology delivers accurate and immediate information when others fail. Tunnelcom has been utilizing IDENTEC SOLUTIONS robust tags in its ATS deployments since 2003. For more information on Tunnelcom's Automated Tagging Systems, log on to www.identecsolutions.com |

■ The US Department of Defense set to use IDENTEC SOLUTIONS’ technology
The single largest user of RFID, the United States Department of Defence, announced in December 2008 four select suppliers for an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract (IDIQ). Representing a total value of $428 million, the open competition was the first of its kind for RFID equipment. As a sole technology partner for two of the selected awardees, the announcement follows an intensive and lengthy process for IDENTEC SOLUTIONS that included ISO 18000.7 certification and significant due diligence related to the specific needs and challenges of U.S. military. |
