WATCHERTUNNEL is installed in the Ormen Lange project. The current installation gives information about what personnel is inside or outside a tunnel. An infrared sensor is also installed to give alerts when unregistered personnel enter the tunnel.
The 600 meter distance between the control office and the tunnel entrance is covered by a wireless network. The current installation was carried out in two days by Tunnelcom AS.
Background
The Ormen Lange project is a massive project initiated to export gas from the Ormen Lange gas field. Ormen Lange will be designed to handle 20 billion cubic meters of gas every year. Roughly the same as the total estimated annual demand for the kingdom of Norway.
From October 2007, the gas from the Ormen Lange field will be transported via the world's longest undersea pipeline to UK, and hence cover 20% of the UK's gas requirements for up to 40 years. |
